Kings Place, 90 York Way, London N1 9AG

To mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, Raphael Wallfisch and Piers Lane explore music for cello and piano in the time of war in Britain and France. Sonatas by Fauré and Frank Bridge, both from 1917, offer a First World War perspective from opposite sides of the English Channel. The pairing from the Second World War contrasts Edmund Rubbra’s G minor sonata with the colourful sonata by Francis Poulenc, started in 1940, but not completed until 1948, when something nearer to normality had resumed in French musical life.

This performance will last approximately  2 hours, including an interval.
